This is a fascinating & personal account about the disturbing & tragic truth of the political upheaval of life in Zimbabwe under the tyrannical rule of President Mugabe. This is eloquently depicted by the author Althea Farren through the ordinary lives of the book club members, who meet monthly over a span of over 30 years. Her descriptive prose high-lights the strength, honesty and compassion of these women who had to cope with chaos and dramatic change during this oppressive period of their lives, using books as a form of escape. Having to make the arduous decision to leave their home, business and friends to go live and find a new life in Ireland is harrowing. A wonderful read.
